The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor, Human Anatomy - Clinic Teaching Track position. Applicants must have a terminal degree in human anatomy or a closely related discipline (e.g. MD, DO, DPT, PhD), conferred by August 1, 2021.

This full time position is designated as a 9-month instructional, research and clinical (IRC) appointment set to begin August 2021. Workload will be approximately 70% teaching (21 credits/contact hours), 10% research, and 20% service. The candidate selected for this position will primarily teach classes in human anatomy (lectures and labs); advise undergraduate and graduate students; maintain a line of research and scholarly record; and demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement. The position will not be eligible for tenure.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Who We Are:

The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition program is a new academic unit in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, that merges expertise in human anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise science. The Department administers programs in Human Physiology and Nutrition (BS; accredited DPD program), Excercise Science (BS), Applied Physiology (MSc), Strength and Conditioning (BS-option, MS) and Sports Nutrition (MSc). Additionally, the Department is responsible for anatomy and physiology education across all undergraduate health and allied health related programs (e.g. nursing, pre-medicine, pre-athletic training, pre-physical therapy) and is planning expansion to accommodate a Doctorate in Physical Therapy program. Enrollment across all these degree programs is expected to double in the next 5 years.

The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition is housed in the new William J Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center (Hybl Center). This state-of-the-art facility is designed to promote a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative approach to education, research and clinical practice, driven by teamwork and a passion for translating research into real-world solutions. It promotes the concept of "Exercise and Nutrition as Medicine" for patients with various diseases and/or disorders. This project benefits from a close partnership between UCCS and Penrose/St. Francis-Centura Health that brings together a unique and unparalleled combination of clinical practice, undergraduate and graduate education, combined with clinical, faculty and student research. What We Offer: 

Salary Range: Generally starting at $60,000 - $70,000

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (e.g. MD, DO, DPT, PhD) in human anatomy or closely related discipline, conferred by August 1, 2021
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in professional or clinical service
  • One (1) year of human anatomy teaching experience at an institution of higher education
  • One (1) year of experience with human cadaver prosection
  • A research agenda demonstrating high-quality research, including publications and academnic dissemination, related to the field of anatomy
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occassionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
