Position Summary:

Applies professional knowledge or expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and serves as lead person on one or more program(s) within a single discipline. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional /technical judgment is sound. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology; impact on other EH&S programs, and senior management approvals as required. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments and/or segments of the organization. Manages the EHS Public Health (Health Inspections) Program as the campus REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist). Performs periodic regulatory health inspections. Serves as the campus liaison with County, State, and Federal agencies in regard to overseeing the program elements within the Health Inspections program, which includes campus food safety, swimming pool safety, drinking water protection, student housing sanitation, and pesticides surveillance programs. Provides consultation, investigation, sampling and analysis of the campus water system and all campus swimming pools. Manages various assigned Campus Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs as assigned. Will support various other EH&S programs and serve as the Campus liaison/EHS School Coordinator to various Academic and non-Academic Units.

Annually: $86,813.00

A minimum of 2 years' experience working as an REHS and a strong background in food & water safety with a good working knowledge of the regulations.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Registration as an REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist).

Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.

Demonstrated skill to effectively represent the organization to state and federal authorities, and community groups.

Thorough knowledge/understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.

Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.

Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.

Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.


Professional certification as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Professional certification as Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Special Conditions Required:

Other duties as assigned. Including Emergency Support Team responsibilities with periodic 24 hour on call responsibilities.

Must have a valid CA Driver's License and participate DMV Pull-Notice Program.

Must be able to wear PPE.

May be required to work outside of regularly scheduled shift.
