Job Summary

Supplemental Instruction Leaders are viewed as academic student leaders, model students, and are significant contributors to the University of West Georgia community. We believe SI Leaders provide motivation for learning and act as a role model to their fellow peers.

As members of the Center for Academic Success staff, SI Leaders:
•attend the class that they are the SI leader for,
•conduct 2-3 SI sessions per week to engage and enhance learning concepts,
•conduct an office hour,
•conduct planning sessions for their sessions,
•attend 2 trainings per month.

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.

Required Qualifications

Overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or faculty referred.
Must have earned a grade of “A” in the course.
Must successfully complete a background check.
SI Leaders for Fall 2021 must be available to attend a full two day training in person on Monday, August 9th and Tuesday, August 10th.

Preferred Qualifications

SI Leaders are selected on the basis of faculty recommendation, academic skill, leadership, character, and the ability to communicate well with others. SI Leaders are expected to have extensive knowledge of the subject they are hired to facilitate and the ability to communicate that knowledge to their peers. We expect that SI Leaders will have a positive perspective of the University of West Georgia.

Other Information

Student Learning Outcomes for the Fall 2021 Supplemental Instruction Leader position:

Student will learn teamwork, evaluation, application, and further knowledge of subject.

Student will learn design and creation for SI sessions.

Students will build partnerships with the instructor and students.

NACE Career Readiness Comepentencies expected to learn:

Critical Thinking, Oral and Written Communication, Teamwork/Colalboration, Digital Technology, Leadership, and Professionalism/Work Ethic

Special Applicant Instructions

This is not a Teaching Assistant position or Tutoring position, and does not have any teaching duties. SI leaders are supervised by and report to the Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction in the Center for Academic Success.

SI Leaders for Fall 2021 must be available to attend a full two days training in person on August 9th and 10th.



The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, codified at 20 USC 1092 (f) as a part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose certain timely and annual information about campus crime and security policies.

It is always the policy of the University of West Georgia Police Department to provide to the public an annual campus security report and comply with the federal law known as the Clery Act.
