Job Summary

The Operations Resident Assistant (RA) with a concentration in operations is the key factor in breathing life into the building and comes with a more structured work environment than Engagement RAs. All RAs must be flexible and creative in meeting the residents’ needs by serving as a mediator, referral agent, advisor, community developer, educator, friend, and active campus role model.

Operations RAs will be responsible for resident interaction on their floor, knowing their residents, and promoting programming. They have programming and more on-call responsibilities, service desk hours, and other administrative tasks. On-call responsibilities will be primarily during the week. Operations RAs carry most of the on-call and desk coverage shifts during the week, and weekend assistance may also be necessary.

Student Assistant III positions include exceptional student duties of a complex nature, requiring extensive prior knowledge, skill, or training. Student Assistant III positions may include strenuous and constant physical activity. Students in these positions take on a heavy workload, perform work with little or no supervision, and often have supervisory responsibilities over other students.

On Call and Desk Responsibilities (Sunday night through Wednesday majority and assisting with the weekend when necessary): Enforce Hall regulations, conduct building rounds, report facility concerns, respond appropriately to incidents. Assist with resident issues and attend to their needs—Working Service Desk shifts and offering premier customer service to our residents. Stay up to date on all required training by the department and the university.

Programming: Assisting with building programming by taking residents. Giving ideas for floor or building events. Assisting with creation as desired.

Staff Meetings and Collaboration: One on ones with supervisor and staff meetings on Tuesdays from 7-9 PM. Monitor and respond to emails related to the job position daily.

RAs must know assigned residents by first name, last names, interest, majors, involvement at UWG. Mediate roommate issues and concerns as they arise. Report concerns of residents to their supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Residential Campus Experience: Have at least two semesters of UWG residence hall living experience or have a comparable living experience at another institution.

Attitude: Positive attitude and willingness to step and help for department efforts.

Availability: Understanding that on-call and desk hour will be most of your role and time commitments on the weekend will be necessary.

Credit Hours: At least 15 college credit hours completed at the time work begins.

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong organization skills to manage multiple spreadsheets and keep thoughts and actions effective.

Impeccable time management skills to manage work schedule efficiently.

Google applications expertise (calendar, sheets, docs, hangout, meets, etc.).
