The Engagement Resident Assistant (RA/VA) is a key factor in breathing life into the building and making a positive difference in their peers’ lives. This role requires someone that can balance their time and work well autonomously. Available for programming creation and carrying out on a large and small scale. The Engagement RA should be an advocate for campus resources and activity. Strong skills in assisting students with finding their place on campus, taking residents to events in Housing buildings and across campus, helping them find a student organization that fits their needs, and helps them make their mark at UWG. Engagement RAs and Operations RAs have programming and on-call responsibilities for Engagement RAs; more time will be spent on programming. On-call responsibilities will be majority weekends with Housing and campus events obligations. All RAs must be flexible and creative in meeting the residents’ needs by serving as a mediator, referral agent, advisor, community developer, educator, friend, and active, a positive campus role model.Responsibilities Percentage Of Total Time50%Responsibility / Duty
Programming: Creating programming within the hall, both large and small, weekly, including but not limited to the following:
Taking residents to events on campus outside the residence hall.
Assisting with tabling and education of campus resources in residence halls.
Door knocking in your building to promote campus events and in hall tutoring.
Assisting with the resident incentive programs.
Attending UWG sporting events and taking residents.
Assisting with retention efforts as directed by the department.
Utilizing campus resources and taking residents along.
Creating floor bulletin boards that are educational, interactive, and relevant to the residents.
Resident Interactions: Interacting with your assigned residents 1 per month (August, September, October, November, January, February, March, and April).Percentage Of Total Time18%Responsibility / Duty
On Call and Desk Responsibilities (usually including but not limited to; Thursday night through Saturday) enforce Hall regulations, conduct building rounds, report facility concerns, respond appropriately to incidents. Assist with resident issues and attend to their needs. On-call responsibilities will be majority weekends with Housing and campus events obligations. Working Service Desk shifts and offering premier customer service to our residents. Stay up to date on all required training by the department and the university. Respond to all on-call and desk communications (phone, text, and radio).Percentage Of Total Time2%Responsibility / Duty

Staff Meetings and Collaboration: one on one with supervisor and staff meetings on Tuesdays from 7-9 PM. Monitor and respond to communication from the department daily.Percentage Of Total Time5%Responsibility / Duty
Develop Community: RAs must know assigned residents by first name, last names, interest, majors, involvement at UWG. Mediate roommate issues and concerns as they arise. Report concerns residents to their supervisor.
Student Assistant III positions include exceptional student duties of a complex nature, requiring extensive prior knowledge, skill, or training. Student Assistant III positions may include strenuous and constant physical activity. Students in these positions take on a heavy workload, perform work with little or no supervision, and often have supervisory responsibilities over other students.Required Qualifications
Residential Campus Experience: Have at least two semesters of UWG residence hall living experience or have a comparable living experience at another institution.
Attitude: Positive attitude and willingness to step in and help with department efforts.
Availability: Understanding that on-call and desk hour will be most of your role and time commitments on the weekend will be necessary.
Completed at least 30 college credit hours at the time work begins.
Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.Preferred Qualifications
Ability to strategize and ensure that every resident is involved and active on campus. Introducing residents to a wide variety of opportunities on campus. Assisting residents in searching for a place on campus that fits their interests.
Strong critical thinking skills, view problems and assigned tasks, and solve and seek solutions.
Self-starting ability, able to work independently.
Manage your time well to complete all necessary tasks, including tasks that come up last minute. You can pivot and adjust efficiently and effectively.
