Adjunct faculty are an integral part of the University’s learning community and teach courses online and/or on campus.
The College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for an academically qualified adjunct faculty member to develop an online version of:
PSYC 230 – Psychology of Design
Course Description: Psychology of Design: Why People Tweet, Play Games, and Have Favorite Colors. This course explores the psychological theories and principles that influence the discipline/industry of design. Color, consumer and social behavior, games, gambling, story, and decision making are a few areas of study we will cover.
Potential Course Learning Outcomes
• Explain the primary principles/theories of psychology that influence both the application and consumption of design and products
• Describe the biological effects of dopamine as they apply broadly to design issues.
• Articulate how psychological theory can influence the creative process of design.
• Articulate why people form cultures around products of design such as video games, comic books, or technology.
• Apply the scientific method and introductory psychological research methods to construct a study to test design solutions.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
• Develop PSYC 230 as an online course partnering with the Learning Design Team and the College of Arts and Sciences
• After successful completion of course development, teach assigned course as specified in the schedule and course contract.
• Participate in welcome orientation to become familiar with the University’s mission, academic policies and procedures, expectations, and Canvas (Learning Management System).
• Prepare essential learning objectives, lesson plans, and assignments. Develop course syllabus.
• Clearly communicate course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, and assignments and deadlines.
• Employ a variety of teaching styles in order to effectively deliver course content demonstrating both academic and real-world applications of concepts covered.
• Encourage active learning through discussion topics, class assignments, group projects, etc.
• Provide feedback and grade assignments in a timely and thorough manner (with 24-36 hrs.).
• Establish office hours to provide additional assistance with student questions/concerns.
• Report early alerts for students who are not actively engaging in the course.
• Additional duties as assigned.
• Masters in Psychology or a related fieldPreferred Qualifications
• PhD in Psychology or a related field
• Online teaching experience and/or online course development
