Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Disability Resource Center (DRC) in fostering the full and meaningful inclusion of students with disabilities at the University of Georgia. This position is responsible for evaluating disability-related documentation, determining appropriate accommodations, and working with students, faculty, and other UGA resources to ensure that legally required equal educational access is provided. This position aids in the facilitation of retention and academic success of students with disabilities by informing them about appropriate academic accommodations, self-advocacy, and relevant policies and procedures.

This position maintains confidential case notes and other supporting documentation. This position creates and maintains collaborative relationships with other UGA departments to foster access throughout the university. This position involves active participation in campus, state, and national professional development activities, keeping up-to-date on policies and best practices regarding disability services, and representing the DRC and the University of Georgia as leaders in ensuring access for students with disabilities in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, guidelines, and regulations that provide for the full and meaningful inclusion of students with disabilities in the University environment

Knowledge regarding current trends and innovations of national, state, and local disability-related developments

Routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in complex problem-solving and ethical decision-making

Multi-task in a high-volume, open-access team environment that includes regular disruptions, while maintaining a positive outlook and effective productivity

Proficiency with matters related to diversity and disability experiences

Maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly-sensitive and confidential information within applicable laws

Independently exercise judgement and expertise in making recommendations to University staff and faculty regarding improvements to campus accessibility

Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage caseload of students with disabilities to coordinate provision of appropriate academic accommodations. Assess disability-related accommodations of students with disabilities by engaging in the interactive process for the development of academic accommodations and service. Monitor academic progress of a student caseload through outreach, intervention and retention strategies. Coordinates appropriate academic accommodations with faculty and educates faculty regarding the academic support needs of students. Document communications, actions, and accommodations while maintaining confidentiality.
