Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Communications, Marketing, Education, or other related field. Two years relevant specialist experience or experience in a related field. Experience in Higher Education and specialized work is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Sam Houston State University Establishing Leadership In & Through Education (ELITE) department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Contributes to expanding Sam Houston Establishing Leadership In & Through Education (ELITE) and evolve program. Accomplishes expansion efforts through coordinating outreach and programming with several regional two-year colleges in order to provide a transfer path to Sam Houston State University to traditionally underserved student population groups. Recruits student participants at community colleges. Provides assistance to regional two-year colleges in the development of similar ELITE and evolve programs at these institutions. Coordinates, plans, advertises and hosts ELITE/evolve programs on campus as well as with outside constituents at regional two-year colleges. Plans, coordinates, and implements ELITE/evolve recruitment-focused campus visits. Conducts transfer/recruitment presentations to prospective students/families. Communicates academic and non-academic recruitment opportunities on and off campus to ELITE/evolve staff. Assists with the daily operations of ELITE/evolve department, including overall program implementation. Contacts on campus departments regarding student programming and recruitment efforts to promote ELITE/evolve to regional two-year colleges. Develops marketing documents and techniques geared towards the recruitment of regional two-year college students and translates the goals and values of the university and ELITE/evolve in recruitment materials. Generates new events/program ideas with department staff members to increase outreach to prospective students/visitors. Serves as program liaison at regional two-year colleges building positive relationships in order to ensure quality recruitment opportunities are available for these programs at institutions. Responsible for providing outreach and case management services to students on-site at community colleges via individual and group programming/mentoring. Organizes on-site monthly/bi-monthly meetings with regional two-year college administrators and Admissions/Advising/Recruitment staff. Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and submission of weekly/monthly reports on all major areas of responsibility including the progress of program participants at area community colleges. Advocates for regional two-year college program participants by working collaboratively with university Admissions/Advising departments to ensure successful transfer to Sam Houston State University. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Requires detailed knowledge of university infrastructure, policies and procedures including but not limited to university Admissions, Residence Life, and Financial Aid policies and can communicate policies/procedures to prospective students. Requires thorough knowledge of office systems. Must have the ability to solve operational problems and make suggestions for process improvement. Must have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Computer skills include Microsoft Office and use of Navigate student contact management system.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and travel frequently (bi-weekly/monthly) to regional two-year colleges.
