Responsibilities The AVP for Philanthropy reports to the VP for Philathropy and Alumni Engagment (PAE) and will function as a key member of the PAE leadership team to develop strategies to engage, solicit and steward donors of Augusta University and AU Health. The AVP will also be responsible fpr all management facets of PAE communications and Corprate and Foundation Engagement.The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Direct the management efforts of PAE Communications including cases for support, proposals for donors, and newsletters to support all major gift officers and the Alumni Engagement team;
  • Direct Augusta University's Corporate Foundation Engagement program by creating, implementing and managing strategies for foundation and corporate engagement at the local, regional, and national level. Match Augusta University priorities with prospective corporate and foundation donors' priorities by cultivating internal and external relationships;
  • Manage and supervise the PAE Communications team, to include Senior Director of Communications, the Associate/Director Communications Specialist and the PAE Philanthropy Writer;
  • Develop and achieve fundraising goals, plans and objectives for foundation and corporate giving, closing multiple gifts at the six and seven figure level, while reporting to and collaborating with Augusta University's Vice President for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement;
  • Manage a comprehensive proposal writing function to include individualized proposals and cases for support across the AU enterprise and AU Health System;
  • Develop and implement a sophisticated communications strategy for major donors and key constituents to increase their overall engagement with the institution;
  • Work closely with the Vice President for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement and the leadership team in support of the comprehensive campaign for Augusta University;
  • Stay abreast of AU programs and research appropriate programs for foundation and corporate funding by meeting with AU administrations, deans, scientists, and other faculty and traveling with these leaders to meet with an active portfolio of foundation and corporate prospects. Host campus visits by foundations and corporations involving AU faculty and representatives;
  • Develop strong collaborations university-wide to serve as the primary liaison and clearinghouse for foundation and corporation contacts, as well as strong partner with AU Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement professionals and Sponsored Programs Administration, to optimize foundation and corporate grant opportunities and stewardship;
  • Supervise development of compelling and competitive proposals to secure foundation and corporate funding, as well as effective stewardship of foundation donors, including required reporting and gift announcements;
  • Administrative duties related to the direction of Corporate and Foundation Engagement ensuring appropriate and timely documentation of all donor interactions and donor relationship activities within the database of record;
  • All other related tasks/duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically, experience in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding private philanthropic gifts. Demonstrative success closing multiple gifts of $100,000 or more.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)
  • Demonstrative success closing multiple gifts of $250,000 or more
  • 10-15years or more with major gift fundraising experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically, experience in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding private philanthropic gifts

  • Ability to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds, including healthcare professionals, community leaders, as well as, patients, families, volunteers and employees
