The Centre for Depression and Suicide Studies (CDSS) is a clinical research centre within the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital. CDSS brings together leading scientists conducting groundbreaking research dedicated to discovering ways to improve the lives of individuals with depression and suicidality. We collect multimodal data including clinical, imaging, and molecular measures and use machine learning to optimize data analyses. The Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto and CDSS seek to fill an early career Scientist position with a focus on neuroimaging. The Scientist will be involved in all aspects of research study development, funding, initiation, execution, analysis, interpretation, and presentation and publication of results. The successful candidate will have an academic position description of either Clinician Scientist (MD) or Status-Only Researcher (PhD) and must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The tentative start date for this position is July 1, 2021.

Applicants for this position must have a PhD or an MD degree with abundant experience in neuroimaging and should meet the criteria for a Clinical Full-Time or Status-Only (PhD Researcher) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. If the successful candidate is a clinician, they must be eligible for licensure in Ontario. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of applicable research methods and process (protocol writing, data analysis, presenting research findings), including neuroimaging expertise in fMRI, DTI, structural imaging. In addition, the successful applicant will provide imaging expertise for CDSS – participate in creation of imaging operational procedures with study teams, ensure quality control, analyze and present data to Sponsors.

The successful applicant will be responsible for training and supervising research staff, graduate students and fellows and will be required to initiate new research projects, including development of research proposals and protocols, preparation and submission of grant applications in close collaboration with other scientists and investigators. They will represent St. Michael’s Hospital/Unity Health Toronto at committees, scientific meetings, advisory boards, etc. and will need to develop strategic alliances with outside parties. It will also be expected that they plan long-term strategies for the research program and be able to interpret and implement study protocols.

Rank and salary will range from $81,978.00 to $106,567.50 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, and may be eligible for a relocation package and/or start-up fund as well space may be provided.
