Your opportunity:

The Senior Development Officer (SDO) -Major Gifts is part of a team working under the general direction of the Executive Director, Advancement.
Working directly with Chairs and academic leaders, The Senior Development Officer is responsible for fundraising forprograms across the Faculty within a specific portfolio. The incumbent identifies, cultivates and solicits donors at the major gift level, generally $25,000 and above with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000 and above. The incumbent contributes to the strategy and ensures proper stewardship takes place following a gift to maintain the donor's involvement, interest and support. The active involvement of department chairs and institute directors, faculty members, senior volunteers and the university communityis essential to the overall success of such a program.

Regular daytime schedule with occasional evenings and occasional weekends. Occasional domestic and international overnight travel.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition of Major Gifts generally $25,000 and above with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000 and above
  • Developing tailored fundraising initiatives that support strategic initiatives
  • Conducting advanced research and analysis from a variety of sources to provide detailed background data on donors
  • Cultivating and soliciting current and prospective major gift donors through tailored stewardship programs
  • Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
  • Handling highly sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Writing donor facing material as donor proposals; as well as, briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor interaction

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years relevant experience in a senior staff fundraising role with a proven track record of success and experience managing a substantial pool of major gift donors and prospective donors
  • Demonstrated experience in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospective donors at the $25,000+ level
  • Exceptional personal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate high net worth volunteers and friends, i.e., volunteers
  • Evidence of strong initiative, tact, diplomacy, judgement and decision making in complex environments with competing priorities
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and results-oriented environment. Strong team player who values collaboration
