Nature of Work

The Population Health Shared Resource (PHSR) core is looking to hire a full-time data analyst to provider data management and statistical expertise for grant funded research projects. PHSR supports access and expertise in data management, analyses, and mapping/data visualization of population-based databases. These databases are ideal for studies requiring access to large samples of patients and/or providers; examination of trends in treatment, screening, or other healthcare services; the impact of policy changes or recommendations on healthcare services; investigating the dissemination of evidence-based technologies and interventions; disparities of treatment or other health care services between groups.

The PHSR Analyst is responsible for managing data and conducting analyses on projects assigned, meeting with investigators to determine the parameters of their projects and consulting with the Shared Resource (SR) Director(s) to identify the best resources to meet user needs; maintaining appropriate records of work/service performed; working with the Cancer Center’s Administrative Office to insure users are invoiced in a timely manner; and preparing data regarding use to support the Cancer Center’s annual reporting requirements.

Examples of Work Performed
    Provide database management and statistical analysis for multiple grant funded research projects.
  • Create databases from multiple resources.
  • Check data for integrity.
  • Provide tables, reports, analysis as directed by project leaders.
  • Provide input into publications and interdepartmental projects.
  • Create de-identified datasets as needed for analysis.
  • Conduct analysis of SEER, SEER-Medicare linked data, All-Payers Claims Databases, and other sources of population data.
  • Conduct analysis of cancer registry data.
  • Write methods and results drafts for manuscripts.
  • Provide documentation of analyses.
 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $57,000 to $74.000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, economics, health services research, epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • Three (3) years of experience using databases for analysis.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a research environment (can be combined with data analysis experience).
Substitution: A combination of education and experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, economics, health services research, epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming including SAS, Stata, and mapping software.
  • Experience working with multiple data sources including large administrative databases and medical records.
  • Experience with linkage of medical claims data (Medicare and Medicaid) to primary data.
  • Experience working with cancer registry data.
  • Experience conducting cancer prevention and control research.
