We value the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.The Department Pediatrics, Section of Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Instructor – Advanced Practice Provider - BMT/CT Program position.Nature of Work:- The Instructor – Advanced Practice Provider will be in the Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BNMT). This full-time faculty position will focus primarily on outpatient care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults undergoing allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant and cell therapy procedures for malignancies, hematopoietic failure states, and genetic disorders in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children’s Hospital Colorado. You will be expected to integrate within the multi-disciplinary Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapeutics (BMT/CT) team including other experienced BMT/CT advanced practice providers in delivering outstanding inpatient and outpatient care for autologous and allogeneic transplant patients. You will be a member of a team that integrates clinical care and research, with responsibilities for contribution to clinical research. This position will also have “on-call” responsibilities and occasional coverage support for in-patients in the CCBD.
- Clinical coverage including patient history and physical examination, rounds with the multidisciplinary inpatient Pediatric BMT/CT team (and/or Hematology or Oncology Teams as needed), writing orders for diagnostic tests, medications, nutrition, and nursing care, and timely and accurate documentation in the medical record;Clinical coverage of the Pediatric BMT/CT Service in the outpatient (clinic) setting;Clinical coverage of Pediatric BMT/CT and Oncology patients in the in- and outpatient settings on a limited number of weekend, evening, and holidays “on-call” responsibilities. Compensation days for this coverage are not provided. The current schedule is approximately two or three weekends/holidays per calendar year; the frequency depends on total staffing numbers;Communicate with all members of the CCBD as well as other specialties/disciplines to promote participation in clinical trials; including identification of eligible study patients, educating patients and families, and obtaining consent for study participation. In this role, you will be expected to complete human research subject’s protection and other institutional review board training requirements;Assist CCBD physicians with communication to primary care and other referring providers; Provide resources and education for patients and their families; Perform procedures independently as needed, including lumbar puncture (+/- intrathecal chemotherapy), bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow biopsies, and skin biopsies;Additional responsibilities as needed may include writing orders, completing discharge summaries and communications to referring providers, home care agencies, and pharmacies, nursing education, student education, providing palliative care consults for BMT/CT patients and other research projects; Participation in quality improvement projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:Education:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree
- Master of Science or Master of Physician Assistant Studies; or
- Doctor of Medicine / Doctor of Osteopathic Degree
- Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice within the State of Colorado
- APN licensure as a Nurse Practitioner; or
- PA licensure as Physician Assistant; or
- MD/DO licensure as a Physician
- Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background and sex offender registry check
- If Prescriptive Authority is not already possessed, the process will be required during the first year of employment.
- Continuous maintenance of Advanced Certification and Licenses
- Two or more years in a Hematology/Oncology or BMT setting, preferably in Pediatrics
- Experience in Clinical Research is desirable
- Previous experience in BMT, Cellular Therapeutics, and/or Oncology patient care
- Acute Care Certification
- Current Prescriptive Authority*
- Knowledge of pediatric BMT and/or Hematology/Oncology program;
- Ability to work in both an Inpatient and Outpatient Setting;
- Ability to promote, focus on and participate in Patient Safety, Quality Care, Communication and Customer Service.
- Ability to be comfortable with and promotes a team-oriented approach with both patients and colleague.
