Position Summary
Pre-Award Administration Services, Research Administration Services, Post Award Administration Services, for the Department of Plant, Soil, and Microbial Sciences (PSM) in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR). This position needs to have the capacity in working independently and collaboratively and has exceptional written and verbal communication skills to work with the existing staff at PSM, works closely with department staff, faculty and OSP/CGA to provide accounting controls for a large department with over 400 accounts for post award projects; oversees the management and monitoring the departments EBS account system, maintains post award budget system including subcontract payments; generates high quality monthly and annual reports, forecast expenditures and categorizing expenditures; delivers well-organized quality business solutions that are on-time and on-budget by effectively managing resources; calculates costs and salary encumbrances and changes in the budget; analyzes data and report findings and seeks causes and develops solutions and recommendations for final post award reports; assists Administrative Associate with pre award fellowship and commodity proposal submissions. Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business administration, Finance, or a research-related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration including the area of pre- or post-award processes, or related field such as regulatory administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This job requires completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU Certificate) or equivalent within one year of hire.
Desired QualificationsAbility to carry out job responsibilities with minimal supervision, determining priorities to meet deadlines, making independent decisions as necessary to serve the functional objectives of the department. Must have excellent and effective communication skills and critical thinking skills to accomplish independent decision making, effective time management skills. Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion and multicultural perspectives. Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, or a research-related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
