HEP Lead Coordinator

Position Summary

The Lead Coordinator organizes and manages strategies to administer culturally relevant GED preparation instruction and materials to migrant/seasonal farm worker participants admitted to MSU HEP project. The Lead Coordinator will lead, develop, and coordinate student development and assessment. They will provide academic and career advising in order to enhance students’ success, and with placement of students upon exiting HEP.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Education, Social Science, Education, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field.
- One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience working with college students and programming or similar related volunteer activities.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
- Experience with word processing, database, desktop publishing, web page design and maintenance software or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in education desired or demonstrated equivalent experience and education in related field.
- Experience working with migrant/seasonal farm worker students, knowledge of their values and belief systems, their educational issues and ability to provide culturally relevant services.
- Demonstrated experience teaching basic skills to high school students, teens or adults, preferably GED instruction.
- Excellent knowledge and experience using email, web based communication, and Microsoft applications.
- Ability to structure work assignments to produce maximum quality and quantity with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to work with instructors, staff and administrators.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive required.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English and Spanish.

- Experience in working with Federal programs preferred.
- Experience in academic advising desired.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, maintain confidentiality, and foster a team environment.

Description of End Date

This is a limited term position funded through 06/30/2022 from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
