Description:
A post-doctoral position is immediately available in the Division of Immunology at the Tulane National Primate Research Center, affiliated with the School of Medicine at Tulane University. Candidates will investigate the underlying mechanisms of immune dysfunction in HIV/SIV infection and examine the impact of co-infections on HIV immunopathogenesis. The postdoctoral candidate will conduct research projects focused on examining the impact of malaria co-infection on SIV-associated intestinal mucosal dysfunction, as well as how concurrent HIV infection affects malaria infection in pregnancy and subsequent infant immune development.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ph.D., D.V.M and/or M.D. in a biological science
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: (Note: The following criteria will not be used in screening qualified applicants but may be considered in the final decision-selection process of candidates interviewed.)
- Prior training in cellular immunology, microbiology, molecular biology or related field
- Previous experience with cellular immunology techniques, such as flow cytometry and ELISA/ELISPOT assays, tissue processing, cell, bacterial, viral and/or parasite culture, sterile technique, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency with common laboratory equipment and techniques required
- Knowledge of various software programs for both PC and Mac systems, such as Excel, Graphpad Prism, FlowJo and Adobe Creative Cloud applications
- Organization and supervisory skills required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Note: The following criteria will not be used in screening qualified applicants and may not be used in lieu of minimum qualifications stated above.)
- Prior experience with nonhuman primate models of infection
- Grant and manuscript writing skills
- Knowledge of institutional regulatory document submission
