General Summary

Internal Auditing is an independent, objective, assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

The functions of the Senior Internal Auditor are as follows:

1. Plan and perform audits, advisory services, and investigations in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditing (IIA) standards.
-Projects may address the financial, operational, compliance, or information technology risks of University departments, programs, and processes.

2. Evaluate and assess the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of university operations; which includes reviewing the adequacy of internal controls, the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and determining whether operating units are in compliance with University policies and procedures; and applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.

3. Develop audit scope and objectives and performs audit testing to complete complex audits and special projects.

4. Prepare audit working papers and audit programs that provide evidence of the work performed, supports the audit observations and reports, and meets IIA standards.

5. Conduct exit conference meetings with management to discuss observations, recommendations, and implementations.

6. Prepare written reports of observations and recommendations, and effectively communicates the observations and recommendations to the auditee.

7. Assist in the development of the risk assessment and the internal audit plan.

Required Qualifications

1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below:
(a) College course work in information technology, accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field
-60 semester hours equals 1 year (12 months)
-90 semester hours equals 2 years (24 months)
-120 semester hours equals 3 years (36 months)
(b) Progressively more responsible experience that provides a knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories, and practices used in internal auditing

2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience performing duties comparable to those listed for the Internal Auditor

NOTE: Possession of a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Information Systems Security Professional certificate or a Certified Public Accountant certificate satisfies all the training/experience requirements of this class.

Desired Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree

2. Three years recent/current progressive audit experience (internal or external).

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

4. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as with minimal supervision.

5. Ability to establish and build effective working relationships with management, faculty, and staff.

6. Ability to perform a variety of complex and technical projects with minimal supervision. Including audits of information technology systems, requiring familiarity with information security, information technology general controls, and applying business processes and controls to information technology systems.

7. Current professional certification as a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant, and/or Certified Information Systems Auditor.

8. Strong technology skills and experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.

Work Hours

Core working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm
