This position works collaboratively with faculty and colleagues, facilitating technology that supports extraordinary teaching in the School's degree programs and related initiatives.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist Wharton faculty in providing content to students in face-to-face, hybrid, remote, and web-enhanced courses by crafting and configuring LMS (learning management system, currently Canvas) sites with interoperable teaching tools, site templates, and related delivery platforms.
  • Provide support, advice, internal troubleshooting, and problem resolution for using learning platforms to faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and students; contribute to evening/weekend on-call rotation.
  • Research, apply and continuously improve the School's best practices for all aspects of instructional technology, including platforms (LMS, synchronous, and asynchronous delivery), teaching tools that work in conjunction with platforms (LTI), and analytics.
  • Lead or contribute to projects for improving teaching technology and service delivery at Wharton. Research and evaluate products and services; qualify and select suppliers; lead or contribute to team efforts to test, pilot, implement, and evaluate new services.
  • Grow expertise across Wharton in techniques for using LMS, synchronous and asynchronous delivery platforms, and other educational technology through consultations, workshops, and self-service materials for Wharton faculty, teaching assistants, and staff.
  • Develop and maintain templates, checklists, training materials, and other communications that reinforce instructional technology best practices, Wharton systems and processes, and faculty teaching success; contribute to related University-wide programs.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and minimum 2 years progressively responsible experience in instructional or academic technology support.
  • Evident skill and passion for helping educators succeed in teaching. Preferred: prior experience as a technology trainer, workshop facilitator, or university-level instructor.
  • Understanding of presentation, communication, and assessment tools for education and related accessibility requirements. Working knowledge of instructional design preferred.
  • Deep working knowledge of LMS platforms for education, such as Instructure Canvas (strongly preferred), Blackboard Learn, D2L Brightspace, or Moodle.
  • Broad working knowledge of synchronous (Zoom preferred) and asychronous (Panopto preferred) instructional delivery platforms; interoperability standards for teaching technology (IMS Global LTI Advantage experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with reporting and analytics for academic technology. General familiarity with business analytics (e.g. Microsoft PowerBI). Learning analytics experience preferred; IMS Caliper experience or prior coding involving APIs strongly preferred.
  • Track record of managing instructional projects successfully. Preferred: past experience with vendor negotiation related to projects.
  • Demonstrated interest in advancing education, including research and evaluation of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Expertise in authoring multimedia content with Microsoft Office Suite, HTML/CSS, web video, and similar tools.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and customer service skills. Effective communication with technical and non-technical audiences is critical to success in this position.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is required, as is problem solving, juggling multiple priorities, and working within set time frames.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to participate in the team's on-call evening and weekend support rotation.
