Detailed Description:

This is a part time, temporary, non-benefit based position with a projected assignment end date of January 2, 2022.

Serve as the point person for leading and coordinating on-going initiatives to support student success and career services. Work with team members in the Academic Programs Unit to implement platforms to assess the quality of the student experience, proposing adjustments and improvements. Maintain and implement career development initiatives for graduate programs and assess career paths and employment. Support students in establishing links to Kroc School and University services. Support the planning and implementation of student orientation activities. Support the co-curricular components of the different academic programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Student Success Initiatives
    • Meet with new students during onboarding to support initial Fall registration.
    • Conduct degree audits and ensure accuracy of student records in coordination with DARS.
    • Attend GSSN meetings as the liaison between Grad Life and the Kroc School. Ensure coordination and alignment with USD graduate student support initiatives.
    • Connect Kroc students to student resources at USD, with a keen eye towards wellness services.
    • Support survey and other feedback mechanisms for adjustments and improvements in Academic Programs.
    • Implement initiatives that enrich the student experience in alignment with program goals and the mission of the Kroc School
    • Collaborate with faculty advisors and the Academic Programs team to provide support to students.
    • Find and implement viable solutions to emerging situations.
    • Support the planning and implementation of student orientation activities.
    • Maintain current, relevant, up-to-date information on the Student Resources Site regarding student success initiatives.
  • Career Development Initiatives
    • Implement career development initiatives for students to support professionalism and increase employment upon graduation.
    • Maintain relationships with potential employers about the value proposition of our programs; offer ways for employers to meet and engage with our students, faculty and staff, and visit the Kroc School.
    • Measure alumni employment longitudinally by sending Alumni Career Outcomes Survey and tracking data.
    • Work with USD Career Services, the Academic Programs team, and faculty to provide current students and alumni with career development opportunities including resume and cover letter development, interview skills, workshops, networking events, and guest speakers.
    • Maintain alumni engagement to support student and alumni professional development, including periodic alumni newsletter.
    • Curate weekly job postings for Student Resource Site.
    • Maintain periodic communication with Mentorship Program Mentors and actively seek out new potential Mentors.
    • Assess plan(s), evaluate services, and propose improvements.
    • Identify career opportunities at the local, national and international level.
    • Coordinate information platforms to inform and engage students in the pursuit of career opportunities.
    • Serve as liaison to USD departments, community partners, potential employers and other appropriate constituents.
    • Maintain current, relevant, up-to-date information on the website regarding career development services and opportunities.
  • Other Initiatives
    • Support the co-curricular components of the different academic programs including graduate student organizations, Social Innovation Challenge and other opportunities for student success and career development.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with focus in areas of studies related to peace and justice, social change, conflict resolutions or international relations.
  • Two to three years of experience in program management, partnership management, career engagement, or alumni relations.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work efficiently and independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the Kroc School of Peace Studies preferred.
  • Ability to speak a second language preferred
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or in career development preferred.

  • Understanding and knowledge of Kroc School faculty, staff and programs.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Tools & Equipment Used:

PC in Windows environment, various software applications, Ethernet, telephone, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, 10-key calculator and other typical office equipment.
