Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

We have an exciting opportunity for Trades Utility Senior Worker to support Facilities Management's Housing Facilities and its goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. This Trades Utility Senior Worker is the primary points of contact for building maintenance within a defined zone to provide routine maintenance and repairs using plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry skills. This position ensures openers, doors, windows, hardware, plumbing fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, fire alarms, and smoke detectors are in working order. The incumbent will have working knowledge in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, and hand and power tools. Ability to understand and read blueprints and drawings is also essential. This position also provides coverage for emergency maintenance calls off shift on a revolving schedule.

Duties Include:

  • Assist skilled journey-level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup. Incumbent can address specialized areas within a specific trade, such as quality and temperature control.
  • Ability to work independently and make apprentice-level electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or HVAC repairs.
  • Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects.
  • Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
  • Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with the supervisor.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of four [4] years of work experience in at least one building trade. Experience working in a university setting is preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid Driver's License.

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $17.30 - $20.30 ($35,984 - $42,224 per year).

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to their start date.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
