Job Summary

Reporting to the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, the University Librarian is a twelve-month faculty rank position with the opportunity for tenure status. The University Librarian is responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the Library as well as the department's faculty and staff.

Responsibilities The responsibilities of the University Librarian will include developing initiatives that enhance student learning in curricular and co-curricular programs, developing innovative modes of delivering services and their assessment, personnel selection, development and supervision, management and evaluation of the Library’s resources and budget. The position may require some night and weekend hours and the performance of job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.

Required Qualifications
    A Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program and a second Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree in a subject area taught at Savannah State University is required. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience in an academic library. College teaching experience with a record of scholarship that would merit appointment to a senior faculty rank. Experience in fundraising and grant writing; participation in state, regional and national library and information science organizations. Experience in developing and overseeing online teaching and learning programs and activities including online tutorials, guides, and open educational resources. Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies and other trends in higher education that impact libraries. Demonstrated competencies in information literacy and library instruction including assessment of library instruction and other library services and activities. Knowledge of and experience with budget management. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, resulting in exceptional service and collaboration with colleagues and academic departments to advance learning.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in working in multiple departmental/functional areas in a library.
