Enrollment Management at UIUC has an opening for an Assistant Director, Data Analysis and Systems Services. This is a new position, joining an experienced team of five analysts that support the data and reporting needs of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Registrar. We are looking for a skilled analyst, a systems thinker that will be able to understand, create and improve processes that relate to data. We partner with web and design teams in web application development. We support a Slate CRM and the logic and data to drive dozens of communication and market campaigns and millions of emails annually. With 50,000 undergraduate applications each year and several homegrown systems, we program, audit, predict and analyze extensively. We have complex data integrations and extensive report development across multiple tools. In the coming year, we will be integrating Common App undergraduate applications into our systems and shifting many of our processes to Azure technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational Support –

  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management leadership to define and plan processes and systems to meet EM business needs in the areas of data, reporting and systems integration.
  • Serve as lead and liaison between the functional and technical users to make sure existing systems meet Enrollment Management’s business needs. This includes the freshmen application platforms (myIllini, the Coalition Application and the Common Application) as well as the internal application processing application (iAdmit) and the CRM (Slate).
  • Lead and participate in multiple Enrollment Management system implementation and testing efforts.
  • Create and maintain documentation and training materials.
  • Serve as lead and technical steward for Enrollment Management production systems, both custom and vended.
  • Implement new processes and systems to meet EM business needs in the areas of data, reporting and systems integration.
  • Oversee regularly scheduled ETLs and other automated tasks.
  • Data Management and Reporting –

  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management leadership to:
  • Develop, maintain, schedule and distribute strategic and operational reports of prospect, applicant, and student data for Enrollment Management, colleges and departments, and other external campus entities.
  • Provide analytic reporting and data modeling solutions to predict who will apply, be admitted, enroll, retain, and graduate based on multiple data elements, including financial aid.
  • Help create and continually improve reporting guidelines and definitions for Enrollment Management.
  • Lead Enrollment Management report development efforts.
  • Lead the oversight of the regularly scheduled and automated report creation and delivery.
  • Provide end-user support for data retrieval and reporting.
  • Education and Experience:

    Required –

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or a field related to position.
  • Five (5) years of professional-level accounting, managerial and/or business experience including five (5) years of data systems management and one (1) year at an administrative level (experience can be concurrent).
  • Demonstrated experience with complex data systems and data management reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with advanced level SQL or other data manipulation tools.
  • Preferred –

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Information Science, Data Systems, IT Management or an IT related field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience working with Admissions and/or Student systems.
  • Programming/scripting experience (e.g. .NET, C#, Javascript, HTML, or Powershell, etc.).
  • Experience working with and providing high-quality service to a diverse group of constituents.
  • Experience with Python, R, MS Azure/Synapse, or other relevant data tools and methods.
  • Experience with MS Power BI, Tableau or other relevant data visualization tools and methods.
  • Experience with University of Illinois data systems – EDW, Banner.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to complete small projects independently and work as part of a team on larger projects.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and customer service presence.
  • Ability to define and lead a project with a small team of people.
  • Salary and Appointment Information:

    This is a full-time Civil Service, Business Administrative Associate position. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
