The Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a national leader in innovative clinical care and teaching, is seeking to fill a tenure track research faculty role who will serve as the Deputy Director of the Carolina Health Workforce Research Center. The focus of this position will be on conducting interdisciplinary research in behavioral health, primary care, health services research, health policy, health workforce research, value-based care and population health. We seek candidates who will join the department’s growing research team to enhance care for vulnerable and underserved populations and to influence policy decisions related to primary care practice. Successful candidates will demonstrate the capacity for high-quality research, teaching, and leadership, and will be expected to publish in top-tier academic/medical journals. Securing grant funding is expected.

This role will be an integral part of our growing research team. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Research: This position will generate extramural funding, produce 2-4 research manuscripts annually, disseminate research through presentations and publications at the national, local and state level, and participate in the department’s vibrant scholarly environment. The position will teach and mentor a variety of learners, collaborating with others within and external to the department on research proposals, and in other ways helping the department continue our national leadership.
• Leadership & Administration: This position will serve as the Deputy Director of the Carolina Health Workforce Research Center with responsibilities for expanding the Center’s research portfolio on the health workforce needed to support integrated, value-based care teams. The Deputy Director will assist the Director in leading the Center, including recruiting investigators from medicine, nursing, social work, pharmacy and other health sciences schools, providing peer feedback on scholarship, writing grants, producing manuscripts and policy documents and acting in the Director’s stead when required for external and internal meetings.
• Teaching & Education: Like all other faculty in the department, this position will be expected to fulfill the institutions’ teaching mission, teaching and mentoring various learners, fellows and faculty including in research methods. In addition, this role will hold a secondary appointment in the School of Social Work to facilitate multidisciplinary research, including projects involving social care, behavioral health integration, and the evaluation of value-based care; providing methodological and statistical consultation to doctoral students and faculty; and teaching one 1.5 credit course over the academic year.
• Institutional Citizenship: All faculty are expected to work as part of the larger team to improve access, reduce cost, improve quality, and promote efficiency and better health outcomes. Research faculty are encouraged to engage in community outreach and attend professional events as appropriate, to assist with program development and building professional relationships.Educational Requirements:
PhD in Social Work required. Research training in health services research, quantitative and qualitative methods, evaluation of health care interventions, behavioral health, public health, health policy, population health, or a closely related field.Qualifications and Experience:
This position is envisioned for an experienced researcher interested in working within a vibrant, nationally prominent research department that is rapidly gaining greater excellence and impact. Preference will be given to candidates who have: a.) a record of ongoing extramural funding, including current funding as a principal investigator; b.) a consistent track record of publication in top tier peer-reviewed journals; c.) a well-defined research focus with preference given to research in behavioral health, primary care, health services research, health policy, health workforce research, value-based care and population health; d.) strong quantitative methods training; and e.) potential to collaborate with one or more existing Departmental research faculty to strengthen current lines of research.
Candidates must have demonstrated capacity to work in a highly collaborative research team and maintain positive and productive relationships within and outside the department, including project funders and clients. Excellent methodologic skills are required, along with demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and teaching. Candidates with administrative experience and skills will be preferred given the necessary administrative duties and support that will be required for leadership within Carolina Health Workforce Research Center.Equal Opportunity Employer:
