NoDuties and Responsibilities:
This advising position supports recruitment, admission, progression, and retention activities for the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing ABSN and RN-BSN programs.
•Meets with prospective students and families to provide program/curriculum information.
•Facilitates communication, onboarding and registration of newly admitted students.
•Participates in planning and execution of orientation events including presenting academic information to new students during orientation.
•Facilitates ABSN buddy program for newly admitted students.
•Advises students regarding academic and course requirements of perspective programs.
•Monitors academic progress of students; analyzes progress reports, identifies current and potential areas of concern, and refers students to appropriate University and/or School of Nursing resources for assistance.
•Manages the RN-BSN portfolio program by maintaining communication with RN-BSN students, assessing each student’s needed credits, and facilitating evaluations from faculty.
•Ensures students are meeting degree requirements through degree/file audits every semester and student appointments.
•Advises at-risk students (academic alert, probation, and subject to dismissal status) to discuss options and refers to university and School of Nursing resources.
•Oversee and facilitate student academic jeopardy process each semester.
•Assists with developing strategies which address student retention issues.
•Develops alternative program plans for students who fall out of sequence
•Assists with clinical placement process including the compiling and follow up of placement documentation.
•Sits on school committees that include nursing curriculum, admissions, progression and retention.
•Assist Director of Student Affairs in the planning and execution of ABSN & RN-BSN events including, but not limited to: Honors and Pinning ceremonies, Dedication to the Profession, Career Day, and Commencement.
•Manages the recruitment and selection of ABSN peer tutoring and student advisory board.
•Schedules and monitors ATI testing.
•Understands and implements academic policies, procedures and protocols to students, parents and faculty, while upholding FERPA requirements and the highest ethical standards.
•Maintains communication with students through general email and student Sakai sites.
•Performs related duties, as required.
Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling or related field required and two to three years of related experience; equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredQualifications:

•Highly developed interpersonal, communication skills.
•Ability to readily provide compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused and honest advising.
•Excellent attention to detail.
•Demonstrated ability to work constructively in teams and independently.
•Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced, changing environment where responsibilities and duties may frequently change.
•Proficiency with MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint.
•Proficiency with Internet and email applications.
•Preferred: Working knowledge of Admission Portals (e.g. Recruitment Plus, SLATE).
•Preferred: Working knowledge of Higher Education Student Information Systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft).
