Organizational Unit Overview:

The College of Engineering and Technology is comprised of the departments of Computer Science, Construction Management, Engineering, and Technology Systems. Faculty and /staff in the College provide high-quality graduate and undergraduate degree opportunities and research and service programs that enable students to achieve their career goals and that promote a strong, sustainable future for our region.

Job Duties :

The BRIDGES project is looking for a software and systems development programmer to work on improving and expanding the exiting, open source Generic Virtualization Services (GVS) software suite. The GVS package consists primarily of Java and Python components, with JSON, XML, SQL, Docker, Git, shell scripting, and other development tools such as Gradle and Apache Karaf. The BRIDGES Software Developer will be involved in the maintenance of a project software repository for the GVS software and any other software or code branches required by the GVS software. The developer will be part of a team of developers and research assistants and will have responsibilities related to the development of new features and a full scope of testing procedures (unit, integration, systems testing), building the code, configuration and deployment, systems administration of Linux servers, Linux distributions, and virtual machine provisioning and management. This position will be part of a small but friendly and empowering project team at East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) and George Mason University (Fairfax, VA). The BRIDGES development effort will be performed in conjunction with an international community of developers working to advance the GVS code and concepts it promotes. This community will be both sounding board and assistance to the BRIDGES software team and vice versa. The BRIDGES project is not a “production” services environment, so the rapid but competent development and deployment of new software and features will be a priority. Much of the programming will require interfacing the GVS software to network hardware switching devices and Linux servers in order to dynamically re-configure those devices to deliver virtualized resources across North America and Europe. The software development will include interfacing with or modifying open source software such as OpenStack, OpenNSA, LIBVIRT and other software development libraries or tools.
