Animal Lab Technician, Department of Neuroscience - Georgetown University Medical Center

Requirements

Animal Lab Technician, Department of Neuroscience - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Animal Lab Technician provides technical assistance with experimental work in non-human primates on mechanisms of auditory perception and sensorimotor integration in non-human primates to identify precursor mechanisms of language and music. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Runs behavioral, electrophysiology and fMRI experiments; sets up equipment, assists in procedures, conducting observations, handles and training experimental animals, and helps with data analysis.
  • Assists in the day-to-day running of the lab - for example, ordering supplies pre-emptively, working with vendors and preparing regulatory paperwork.
  • Assists with veterinary procedures on animals.


Qualifications
  • BA or MS in Cognitive Neuroscience, Physiology, Biophysics or a related field
  • Ability to handle and care for animals comfortably
  • Computer capabilities
  • Good manual dexterity/technical skills
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Proactive approach


Though training in specific tasks will be provided, experience with awake behaving primates, electrophysiology, studies of the auditory system, fMRI, and/or computer programming is preferred.
