Job Description

This position will be open until filled. Application review will begin April 21, 2021. For full consideration all application related material should be submitted by April 20, 2021.

Under supervision of the Program Director, the full-time Medical Assisting Instructor will provide education and lab supervision directing student activities and collaborating with the faculty to evaluate lab performance.

The duties & responsibilities of the Medical Assisting Instructor are:
  • Demonstrates and maintains current subject knowledge
  • Receive instruction in educational theory and techniques
  • Prepare and teach in the lab and classroom settings which may be online, web-remote, in-person, or hybrid arrangements.
  • Counsel students as needed.
  • Participate in orientation and graduation processes.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, and educational resources for lab areas and storage rooms.
  • Facilitate processes, ensure completion and review of required background checks, physical screenings, and immunizations for all program students.
  • Assist the Practicum Coordinator with student placement and as point of contact for externship affiliates
  • Communicates regularly with the Program Director regarding student experiences and performance
  • Contacts and meets with the Program Director when issues arise
  • Maintains collegial relationships with externship facility staff
  • Meets and maintains all requirements of externship facilities
  • Maintains student attendance records and submits them in a timely manner
  • Works independently and in a team setting, demonstrates excellent time management skills, and prioritizes workflow
  • Travel between campuses as needed for MA program related tasks
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Department chair

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in related field or discipline {AS, AOS, AAS, etc.}
  • Hold a current, medical assisting-specific credential; Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (AMCA)
  • 5 years of experience in a clinical/back office medical assistant role or 5 years as an instructor of medical assisting, or a combination of both

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors/Masters in related field or discipline
  • Experience in a lead medical assisting role, i.e. Back Office Lead MA, MA trainer, etc.
  • Medical assisting specific teaching experience
  • Online teaching experience
  • Experience conducting and managing laboratory, clinical and didactic learning
  • Experience with technology (CANVAS, EHR/EMR, Microsoft Office, Video Capture)
  • Evidence of effective written communication skills

Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master's degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $58,364 annually. The entire salary range is up to $70,038 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years' experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
