Department Description:
The University of San Diego is a private Roman Catholic university that sits on the Indigenous homeland of the Kumeyaay people. The San Diego region is the third most populated area for American Indians in California and is surrounded by four autonomous Indigenous nations: the Kumeyaay, Luiseño, Cupeño, and Cahuilla. Detailed Description:
The Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of San Diego invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in African American Studies beginning in Fall 2021. The Visiting Professor will teach five courses over the year, work closely with faculty mentors, and participate in departmental research activities.
Job Requirements:
Qualified candidates must hold a PhD or terminal degree in Ethnic Studies or a related field and have expertise in African American Studies as well as Comparative Ethnic Studies.
Applicants must have an active research agenda and be able to teach in-person, remote, and hybrid introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in African American Studies as well as Comparative Ethnic Studies; an ability to teach Introduction to Ethnic Studies is required.
Demonstrated experience working with African American communities and mentoring African American students is preferred.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.
