Electrician Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 22808630 Full Time 8 AM - 4:30 PM $76,797 - $86,464 Position Information The Electrician performs journey-level work related to the repair, maintenance, service, installation, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and monitoring of industrial electrical equipment, electrical systems, computerized lighting systems, and battery chargers. Performs planned and emergency maintenance on electrical and lighting control systems throughout the campus community. Maintains industrial electrical equipment of various voltages up to and including 12,000volts (12KV); performs troubleshooting, as needed, on equipment such as generators, transformers, Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, breakers, batteries, DC systems, and Motor Control Centers (MCC) to identify and resolve electrical equipment problems. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance (corrective and/or preventative) performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings, as needed. Reviews and updates all shop logs, both paper and electronic according to updates and changes. Responds to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate electrical concerns or safety issues. Reviews and creates blueprints/drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. The budgeted hiring range for this position is up to $80,000 annual. Experience Experience Requirement 4 years of journey-level experience as an electrician, and/or completion of a certified apprenticeship training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Required Demonstrated experience in maintenance, repair, service, installation, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and monitoring of industrial electrical equipment and electrical systems. Required Experience working in low and medium voltage environments greater than 600 volts, working in and around electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments and control systems. Required Experience using tools and equipment common to the electrician skilled trade. Required Experience and/or certification of training in forklifts, lifts and/or boom truck operations. Preferred Experience and ability to prioritize work orders, routine work, emergency requests and ability to choose the proper materials or equipment to accomplish work in the most expeditious and safe manner. Special Conditions Special Condition Requirement Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check through the DOJ and FBI prior to appointment start date. Required Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required Public Driving Record. Required Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours). Required Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination prior to appointment start date. Minimum Requirements Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash, NEC, Title 24, and standard industry practices.
Knowledge of the Uniform Building Code, Industrial Safety Standards, code and procedures.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, and technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for low and medium voltage equipment and lines.
Skill and ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools common to the skilled trade. Skilled use and maintaining of electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, ampmeters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, dressing tools, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, and insulated hoods/covers and tools.
Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.
Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected.
Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams.
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities.
Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays. Ability to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime, emergency call-back, and a flexible schedule as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2, etc.).

Knowledge of UC/UCR policies and systems.
