Job Description:

The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College is to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities. Faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better workers and better citizens. NOVA faculty may be assigned to any campus based upon enrollment and staffing needs.

NOVA is seeking to hire highly motivated and qualified Information Technology (IT) teaching faculty to expand its faculty base across all five comprehensive campuses (Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas and Woodbridge). The intent of this hiring action is not to focus on any one specific IT skill set but to recruit the most outstanding IT faculty in Northern Virginia. Full-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching various courses in IT areas to include Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Web Page Design and Development and/or Programming (ITD, ITE, ITN, ITP) and for advising students in IT and Cybersecurity programs. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning environments. All faculty members must be available to teach day, evening and weekend classes. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees, and participate in curriculum development and assessment. This appointment has a normal teaching load of 15 credits per semester. Positions filled through the first round of hiring will begin August 16, 2021 for the 2021 – 2022 academic year.

The College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations; and answer emails in a responsible fashion. Teaching faculty are required to maintain current competence in their respective discipline or field of specialization and to advise students.

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

Required KSAs: Candidates should be comfortable with a broad range of technologies and will be required to teach introductory level skills as well as more advanced technical concepts. Candidates should have advanced skills and industry experience in at least one of the following areas:

Computer Forensics
Cloud Computing
Computer Programming (Java, Python, C++, C#)
Database Management and Modeling
Mobile Application Development
Multimedia Development
Software Design
Linux and Unix Operating Systems

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in the teaching field or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Information Technology coursework. Degrees and coursework should be from a regionally accredited institution. Industry certified in any of the following technologies: CCNA, CEH, A+, Network+, Security+, or Linux+. Two years of full-time related, preferably occupational, experience. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of the College’s locations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in the teaching field. Experience teaching a wide range of Information Technology courses, including but not limited to ITD, ITE, ITN, and ITP. Experience teaching industry certifications such as CCNA, CEH, A+, Network+, Security+, or Linux+. Experience teaching in the community college environment.
Experience with and preparation for teaching culturally, linguistically, socio-economically, and academically diverse students at the college-level; college-level teaching experience; experience with a diverse campus population; certification in teaching hybrid or online courses.
