Job Description Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator A/B will support and implement daily operations for multiple quantitative and qualitative research projects focused on patients with kidney disease. In coordination with project principal investigators, project managers, and other team members, this position will help to manage a range of existing research projects including a clinical trial testing the feasibility of behavioral interventions for patients with chronic kidney disease and hypertension, and a large multi-center observational cohort study of patients with chronic kidney disease. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for multiple aspects of study coordination including: subject recruitment, data entry, tracking study progress, communicating with internal and external collaborators, and maintaining study documentation. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations for dissemination of study findings.

Job Description

Principal responsibilities of the Clinical Research Coordinator A include assisting with management of the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Ancillary studies program, the CRIC Opportunity Pool Program, and of the CKD Biomarkers Consortium Scientific and Data Coordinating Center activities, and assisting Principal Investigator with recruitment of research participants, communications with treating physician/provider, verbal and written communication with potential research participants for the Supporting Self-Management of Healthy Behaviors (SMART-HABITS) in CKD. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with recruitment of research participants, including pre-screening of patients via electronic medical records, communications with treating physician/provider, verbal and written communication with potential research participants.
  • Maintain and implement research study tracking processes to ensure timely completion of study timeline and milestones.
  • Manage research participant payments and mailing study materials to participants.
  • Perform preliminary review of research proposals from applicants, manage and track review/approval of proposals for the CRIC Ancillary Studies and Opportunity Pool programs, communicate decisions and recommendations to the proposer, and support grant submissions by preparing necessary documentation.
  • Communicate with internal and external research collaborators, coordinate meetings for a variety of committees, basic website management, and documentation of internal processes for the CKD Biomarkers Consortium
  • Assist with preparation of presentation materials (PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat)

The Clinical Research Coordinator B will perform all of the above duties with a greater level of independence and less direction from senior project management staff. The Clinical Research Coordinator B will also be responsible for developing and maintaining tracking systems to track CRIC Opportunity Pool project progress and Ancillary Studies project details.

Position is contingent upon funding.

The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end.

Qualifications:

Clinical Research Coordinator A: Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 2 years clinical trial/clinical research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Clinical Research Coordinator B: Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years to 4 years of clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.

Both Levels: The ability to work independently as well as in a team setting is required. The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills along with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access is required. Experience with Adobe Acrobat and REDCap databases is preferred.
