Built upon the foundation of the Music Business & Entrepreneurship program, this MBA features a curriculum on management, marketing, finance, media, and more for direct application to the music industry. The MBA in Music Business welcomes students from all musical backgrounds including classical, jazz, and commercial music.

Position Summary:

The Department of Keyboard Studies seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor Pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

This instructor will teach a course called Music Law and Finance (MUCE 5040). This course will introduce the student to the legal and business aspects of the music industry, focusing on how value is created in music entertainment properties (copyrights, trademarks, identity rights, contractual rights, and data) and how transactions involving those properties are structured. It will also include an overview of financial management for musicians. Business areas studied will include recording and music publishing agreements, management and agency relationships, licensing, merchandising, distribution, touring, sponsorship, and the developing areas of digital music.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a JD (juris doctorate) with a background in music and entertainment law.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least five years of practice in the relevant subject area. This is a residential course, so candidates must reside locally so they can teach on-site.
