Ricks Center for Gifted Children at the University of Denver is an exemplary school serving the needs of gifted children since 1984. We provide nationally recognized gifted education to approximately 250 students ranging from three years of age through eighth grade, who demonstrate exceptional, differentiated abilities and learning needs. Our mission is to provide a dynamic and challenging educational environment that anticipates and responds to the individual, intellectual, social, emotional, physical, aesthetic, and cognitive needs of gifted children.

Position Summary
The Early Childhood Teacher secures and sustains overall well-being of enrolled children on a daily basis, demonstrates knowledge of development of gifted students and uses intervention techniques effectively.

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate curricula and activities for a range of gifted learners, including learners with special needs.
  • Promote higher cognitive thinking ability; facilitate independent thinking skills; enrich subject areas and group processes; and develop and structure a stimulating classroom.
  • Other responsibilities include designing exploratory learning activities and in-depth thematic units, creating a classroom atmosphere that encourages development of interpersonal skills, and developing individualized curriculum that challenges each student academically.
  • Work with parents to develop, implement and report journey books, individualized education plans, and differentiated educational reviews as well as providing general parent support is essential to this position.
  • Communicate effectively, support and encourage parent participation in his/her students education and communicate continuously with parents through multiple means.
  • Monitor and record children's development in academic, social, emotional and physical areas while maintaining a consistent record- keeping system using curriculum-based assessment to determine academic needs and clearly report learning and growth, as well as problem areas.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues and support staff; sharing and receiving ideas from others; maintaining classroom expenses within an assigned budget; and participating in the student admission process.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience teaching gifted children.
  • Valid teaching certificate or license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate hours in education of the gifted.
  • 2 or more years of classroom experience in a NAEYC accredited early childhood group setting.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $52,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
