The ideal candidate loves working with and learning about young children, and is nurturing, professional, and dedicated to the profession, young children, and their families. The candidate has experience in emergent curriculum, process art, project-based learning, and an appreciation and understanding of co-learning with children. The candidate enjoys working using a team- approach, with the belief that children deserve to be with adults who live with integrity, honesty, and respect for others. The candidate is dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice and is aware of developmental needs of young children, must be highly flexible, able to multi-task, a self-starter, have attention to detail and a good sense of humor. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of the competency of all children, respect for diversity, and a deep commitment to reflective practice. A deep respect for gifted learners and their holistic needs is required. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, is comfortable sitting on the ground and getting dirty, and naturally embraces children's curiosity.
Ricks Center for Gifted Children at the University of Denver is a Preschool to Grade 8 school serving the needs of gifted children since 1984. - Integrate curriculum and lead a teaching team around emergent themes, with holistic skills and concepts taught and learned through play and carefully constructed learning provocations Kindergarten class.
- Assess student development, creations, conversations and learning using a variety of assessment techniques and models, continually tracking data to ensure growth.
- Effectively lead teaching team with a full-time associate teacher(s), sharing equal responsibility for planning, student development, parent communication, decision-making, and all other components of the job.
- Participate in curriculum development teams to document practices and create a digital library of resources.
- Support the school mission through the active involvement in the school community, Morgridge College of Education, and the University of Denver.
- Build a relationship with parents, including proactive outreach on both positive aspects of learning and areas for improvement.
- Support children in their holistic development through proactive social-emotional instruction and demonstrating a vested interest in gifted education.
- Establish and maintain routines and use positive and collaborative approaches to student behavior management, effectively approaching student misbehaviors as learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with specialists and student support team members.
- Create professional goals and participate in professional learning communities, including coaching and self-reflection.
- Support and teach children advocacy skills and help foster independence in self-care tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, or Elementary Education.
- Valid teaching certificate/license, or eligibility.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull 50 lbs.
- Graduate hours or Master's in Early Childhood, gifted education, or special education.
- Experience teaching gifted children and twice-exceptional students.
- Experience using Teaching Strategies Gold, Connect 4 Learning.
- Experience leading integrated, play-based learning or a Reggio Emilia influenced approach.
- Experience in co-teaching.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 8.
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $52,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
