Duties and Responsibilities:

The Biology Department is seeking a highly motivated full-time Research Assistant to perform technical and administrative tasks and assist with ongoing research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Cavanaugh on Loyola University Chicago’s Lakeshore Campus. The Cavanaugh Laboratory uses behavioral, molecular and genetic approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms and neuronal circuitry underlying behavioral rhythms in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. Potential applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field. A background in working with Drosophila and laboratory experience with molecular and genetic techniques are desirable but not required.

The individual will:
1. Provide support to ongoing research projects.
2. Maintain lab fly stocks and make food and other reagents necessary for fly rearing and behavioral analysis.
3. Oversee lab equipment maintenance.
4. Ensure adequate supplies for routine laboratory needs including dishwashing and autoclaving.
5. Train incoming personnel in proper laboratory conduct, technical areas and processes.
6. Enforce compliance of safety and laboratory procedures among all personnel.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and zero-one year of related experience.

Qualifications:
