Assist the Associate Provost for Student Life and Dean of Students in designing, promoting, and implementing programs and services which contribute to student health, safety, welfare, and overall student life outside the classroom. The Director will act in a leadership capacity within Student Life, nurture the development and oversight of a healthy, resilient, and flourishing community, as well as engage in critical incident responses.
The Assistant Dean will oversee the processes and procedures of the Code of Conduct. This position coordinates the adjudication process and monitors the documentation of student violations of the Code of Conduct, including conducting administrative hearings and issuing monthly community reports.
The Assistant Dean works in collaboration with colleagues to develop and implement an integrated, public health effort to reduce alcohol and other drug harms within the undergraduate community and to foster positive culture change; supports the creation of more low-alcohol and no-alcohol social events; provides context-appropriate education to colleagues and undergraduates; trains and supervises students in supports of this work; and assists in revising and implementing relevant University policies.
- Exercises primary authority for the Code of Conduct, judicial procedures, and disciplinary actions.
- Participates in policy planning, articulation, implementation and review of issues relating to student affairs.
- Selects, trains and advises the College’s student conduct board, in order to promote a fair and consistent disciplinary process.
- Educates and trains adjudication officers in the disciplinary process and procedures. Ensures the process and supports student learning. Collaborates with student leaders, such as Proctors.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key campus partners to develop programming that highlights the College’s Community of Honor and links these expectations to student conduct.
- Participate in the process of responding to Title IX violations.
- Coordinates, updates, and publishes the EQB (Student Conduct) Guide.
- Serves on call, as a member of the Care Team and responds to university emergencies.
- Serves as an advocate for students and articulates interests and issues on their behalf in accordance with the mission of the University.
- Assists the Dean of Students in planning, organizing, and evaluating the mission, goals, programs, and services of the student affairs division.
- Provide context-appropriate educational programming for students at all stages of their undergraduate career, giving them relevant information and skills for understanding policies and procedures, reducing Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) harms, and building a positive community. Supplement existing required education with more advanced optional components.
- Partner with students and colleagues to establish a broad range of no- and low-alcohol social activities, including high-energy activities.
- Assist in the assessment of and response to critical incidents among students that involve alcohol and other substance abuse and related concerns.
- Work with administrators to develop assessment tools and metrics to determine the effectiveness of programs aimed at reducing high-risk AOD behaviors.
- Work with Institutional Research and other units to collect data on alcohol and substance use patterns among undergraduates, including information to aid in program assessment. Prepares regular reports and communicates that information to various stakeholders within the University.
- Writes and maintains policy though the management of online resources associated with the communication of conduct to the community.
- Serves as representative of the Dean of Students Office as needed on various University committees and represents the Dean when necessary.

Directly prepares budget for program and has full responsibility for planning, forecasting, approval, and balancing budget.Education:
Minimum Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, or similar field in a traditional academic setting.Experience:
Minimum three years of experience working with undergraduate students, either in student life, counseling, or a related activity. Experience with adjudicating student conduct violations required. Experience working with a student conduct board and in developing training programs preferred.
Experience with restorative justice, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution, and/or evidence-based substance misuse prevention practices highly desirable.
- Strong, demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, including public speaking.
- Facility with web-based communication and social media.
- Proven ability to design, develop, implement, and assess context-appropriate programs based in current search.
