JOB SUMMARY

The Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) Mental Health services at the University of Connecticut (UConn) Storrs Campus is searching for a full-time Assistant Director of Mental Health Clinical Services (Clinical Mental Health Manager) for SHaW Mental Health with specific expertise in providing clinical and supervisory oversight of a multi-disciplinary team delivering clinical and support services to UConn students. The position is a 12-month, full-time position reporting to the Associate Director of SHaW Mental Health.

Under the direction of the Associate Director, the incumbent will be a member of the clinical operations leadership team, and be responsible for the clinical and supervisory oversight of a multi-disciplinary staff providing clinical services, including: screening, initial assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, referrals to external services, clinical consultation, outreach, educational programming, and supportive services. The incumbent will also carry a clinical caseload.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Development and oversight of operational and systematic efficiencies to ensure high quality student care.
  • Provide individual and group supervision and management to a multi-disciplinary team that delivers direct clinical and support services to students. These services include: screening, assessment, brief treatment, crisis response, support services, psycho-educational services, and consulting services to the University community. The incumbent will be carrying a caseload, including evening and on-call hours.
  • Provide emergency on-call service and crisis intervention for students who have psychiatric emergencies.
  • Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other patient contacts in the PyraMed electronic health record.
  • Implement and provide training, quality improvement and outcome measurement on evidence based interventions used at SHaW mental health.
  • Responsible for staff management and supervision, professional development, and personnel/staffing issues for the clinical team.
  • Prepare required clinical records and case reports in a timely manner, including any necessary and related correspondence.
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports of activities for use in evaluation of the mental health program. Compile data to analyze and identify risks, trends, and gaps in the program to ensure quality assurance and fidelity monitoring of services.
  • Serve as a resource and consultant to the University community on matters relating to the well-being of students within the limits of confidentiality.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining policies and procedures to govern counseling center. Ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Partner with members of the SHaW mental health team as well as the larger SHaW team, other key campus stakeholders and community partners.

Outreach and Educational Programming

  • Train and supervise other health professionals, field placement students/trainees, and volunteers as a member of a robust intern and practicum training program. Conduct workshops and outreach services designed to provide mental health education to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents.
  • Participate in training experiences for masters and doctoral level graduate trainees.
  • Other Duties

  • Attend and participate in regular SHaW mental health staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service training.
  • Participate in University and community committees, as assigned by the Associate Director.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field.
    • Must possess Connecticut Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker or related mental health counseling licensure.
    • Six years post-graduate work experience, including substantial experience providing psychotherapeutic counseling.
    • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
    • Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice.
    • Experience with, and commitment to, diversity and inclusion, healthcare equity and access, and social justice issues and working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Training and experience in short term models.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Previous experience working in a comprehensive university counseling center or similar environment, including partnering effectively and collegially on an interdisciplinary team with campus partners.
    • 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
    • Demonstrated expertise in a minimum of one specific treatment relevant to collegiate mental health (for example eating disorders, attention deficit disorder)
    • Demonstrated experience working with a minimum of one specific population in college settings (for example LGBTQ, non-traditional students, students of color, etc.)
    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time, 12-month position. This position is 35 hours per week (there may be additional hours on occasion) and the incumbent will be required to work two evenings until 6 pm. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
