Research Outreach and Assessment Associate, Research Development Services - Georgetown University Medical Center

Staff members of Research Development Services (RDS) assist Principal Investigators (PIs) of Georgetown University Medical Center with opportunity identification, proposal development and submission, and sub-recipient and independent consultant collaborations.

The Research Outreach and Assessment Associate (ROAA) position supports the strategic scientific mission of GUMC, primarily by facilitating communication on sponsored research opportunities, activities, policies and procedures to GUMC faculty, staff and other research-related offices (e.g. Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Trials, Corporate and Foundation Relations.) They research-related metrics reports for the RDS Deputy Director, Senior Associate Vice President for Sponsored Research and the Office of the Dean for Research (DfR) to track trends in research-related activities and to identify issues related to administrative support. Reporting to the RDS Deputy Director, the ROAA has duties that include but are not limited to:

Sponsored Research-Related Communication and Training
  • Facilitates communication and coordination among GU research-related offices.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training for investigators, support staff and other stakeholders on research opportunity tools such as COS Pivot and the Foundation Center.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training for investigators on new research administration systems, such as GU-PASS, ASSIST and SciENcv.
  • Communicates information on funding opportunities to GUMC researchers.
  • Coordinates with DfR to communicate on the Dean's behalf with GUMC researchers to disseminate and highlight funding opportunities and encourage proposal submission and collaboration.
  • Develops and maintains a relationship with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, including regular meetings and communication of metrics reports.


Collaborations and Special Events
  • Brainstorms, develops and project manages events to facilitate collaboration among investigators.
  • Attends departmental and program faculty meetings to understand capabilities and interests, and to search for and communicate “team science” opportunities.
  • Maintains relationships with facilities, campus events, communications, faculty affairs, and outside vendors.


Submission Support and Analytics
  • Provides coordination and administrative support for specialized grant submissions.
  • Contributes to management of the internal proposal routing systems and serves as the administrative super user for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains RDS relationship with University Information Services.
  • Provides expertise and participates in the development committees to establish new GU-Pass proposal routing systems.
  • Creates and tracks research-related metrics reports.
  • Tracks and coordinates support with the investigators for contract requirements.
  • Provides support to RDS on various tasks, such as biosketch development, proofreading, budget assistance, and application assembly.
  • Maintains RDS website and tracks usage through analytics tools to brainstorm and increase traffic.
  • Creates training documents and videos to add to the website.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of components of NIH, NSF and DOD grants and contracts
  • Knowledge of administrative, cost and principles related to sponsored research activities, including OMB A-21, A-110, A-133, and OMB Uniform Guidance
  • Experience with NIH funding mechanisms, including multi-component mechanisms, and some budget development
  • Experience in planning and coordinating large-scale events
  • Ability to perform in a deadline-driven, high pressure environment
  • Ability to interact successfully with a diverse customer base
  • Ability to perform in an “entrepreneurial” setting, identifying new and unique solutions to strategic issues
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written


Preferred qualifications
  • 5+ years of research administration experience in a high-volume setting
  • Certified Research Administration (CRA)
