Job Summary A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech to work on manufacturing carbon fiber and to study the fiber matrix interface. The focus of carbon fiber manufacturing is to make high strength high modulus carbon fibers, as well as to manufacture low cost carbon fibers. Carbon fibers are being manufactured from polyacrylonitrile precursors, as well as other low cost precursors such as asphaltene and lignin. Low energy consuming carbon fibers, e.g. via Joule heating, are also of interest. Tailoring the interphase in carbon nanotube yarn and BMI and epoxy resins is also required. Postdoctoral scholars will have access to state-of-the-art fiber manufacturing and pyrolysis laboratory located in class 1000 cleanrooms. Central facilities including the Materials Characterization Facility provide a vast array of instrumentation resources.
