Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Facilities Management Mechanical Maintenance section’s mission is to provide excellent customer service while maintaining a safe, comfortable environment where students, faculty and staff can live, learn and work. The position works within the Department of Facilities Management’s HVAC/Plumbing section as a journey level maintenance technician. The HVAC/Plumbing section maintains the plumbing infrastructure, systems and equipment for the University.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Reactive and Corrective Maintenance:
As a journey level technician in the HVAC/Plumbing maintenance shop, a candidate would be expected to be assigned appropriate skill level corrective maintenance tasks such as diagnose plumbing related problems (supply and drain) and make corrections, identify needed parts and provide contractor support when appropriate. Expectations of a journey level technician’s response to work orders includes the ability to perform the above mentioned tasks with minimum supervision and to check work for completeness and accuracy before closing the work order assignment
Works with maintenance supervisor to follow preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment and fixtures. Maintains equipment by inspecting and testing; completing preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes, valve and/or seal replacements or other assignments by supervisor.
Ability to demonstrate dependability, which requires daily attendance. Ability to report to work daily, for a full shift, at an appropriate time. Ability to submit leave request at least 5 days in advanced as much as possible.
Conveys information clearly, confidently, and with proper tone. Ability to develop and deliver written information to individuals or groups to ensure that they understand the message
The position may also be assigned to catalog parts, stock shelves and label inventory when appropriate. Complete routine administrative tasks in a timely manner, to include bi-weekly timesheets, leave requests, FSU-required training, etc.
Change Management :
Ability to remain flexible to meet constantly changing and sometimes opposing demands
Additional 2 years related experience in facilities maintenance and mechanical systems repair.
Advanced training in HVAC and/or plumbing
Licensed in plumbing
Proficiency in operating equipment such as forklift, pipe threading equipment, etc.
Commercial Driver’s License
