Description:

The University is seeking a Director of Accounts Payable with extensive managerial experience in a high-volume office. The Director reports to the University Controller’s Office.  The Director of Accounts Payable is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all accounts payable payments. The Director oversees the accounts payable month-end process and reconciliations as needed and performs other non-routine accounting functions as assigned.

The Director is responsible for managing the accounts payable staff in routine tasks, overseeing the internal control system in compliance with University policy and applicable government regulation, advising University-wide employees on policy, as well as identifying opportunities for improved efficiency.

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises the accounts payable staff to ensure invoices and expense reports are processed accurately and in a timely manner consistent with University policy and government regulation.
  • Reviews all checks processed and provide feedback to staff regarding their individual checks entered.
  • Supervises month-end and year-end close for A/P.
  • Works on calendar year end tax reporting requirements.
  • Provides guidance to employees on proper procedures and support documentation required to comply with Hofstra University Policy and IRS regulation.
  • Runs statistical reports for departments and management as needed.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and deal with competing priorities
  • Prepares ad hoc analysis as requested using Crystal Reports and Access.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned such as ACH process review and Wire transfer bookings
  • Responsible for testing new software upgrades.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or related field required.
• Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in high volume Accounts Payable department required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance and prioritize tasks.
• Possess strong analytical and attention to detail skills.
• Proficiency with financial systems required, as well as Microsoft Excel and Word.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with Banner Ellucian financial systems and Crystal Reports preferred.
• Prior Higher Education preferred.
