Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) supports the health and well-being of families in communities with low access to resources to make healthy changes in homes and neighborhoods. From local gardens in the community, to working with children’s schools to create healthy environments, SNAP-Ed provides families opportunities to be active and healthy their way. (Funding comes from the Federal Government through Arizona Department of Health Services’ AZ Health Zone.) The University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension provides services to 5 communities in Maricopa County. The Community Outreach Professional II position is a cross-functional lead with a triple role: 1) Supervise team and plan program activities in the Wilson neighborhood and Central Phoenix; 2) Lead and offer guidance to either the direct education team OR active living team (depending on education [DOE]); and 3) Work directly with the community to implement program strategies related to community gardens OR active living (DOE). Applicants would benefit from understanding Trauma-Informed Principles, Health Equity and community engagement and from having experience supervising, working with diverse populations and one or more experience in the fields of: Active Living, Community Gardens OR Direct Education (nutrition/garden).
This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Supervise team and program activities in the Wilson/Central Phoenix area. This includes:

  • Supervise daily activities for 4 or 5 subordinates.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with leadership team.
  • Conduct community engagement in order to create a community-led work plan.
  • Oversee the implementation of program strategies and interventions (grant approved Work Plan).
  • Network and develop partnerships with local community members, organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Attend and lead program meetings related to the Wilson/Central Phoenix community.
  • Create written reports.
  • Ability to work independently.

Lead Direct Education team OR Active Living Team (DOE). This includes:

  • Offer guidance and update to those that work on Direct Education OR those that work on Active Living (DOE).
  • Attend and lead program meetings related to Active Living OR Direct Education (DOE).
  • Work with community members, organizations business and other collaborators to implement specific strategies in the area of Active Living OR community garden (DOE).
  • Collect data for research and grant needs, and reporting.
  • Must have good presentation skills and be able to demonstrate various teaching principles and procedures.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to assist or manage data through the SNAP-Ed database.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Require a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience including, but is not limited to, experience with active living programs, community gardens, or teaching youth, adults, and seniors.
  • Must have a reliable, personal vehicle.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Must be able to move/transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have a flexible schedule.
  • Have experience speaking in public and collaborating with local leaders, municipalities, and other stake holders.
  • Experience in Microsoft Word processing, Excel spreadsheet, and computers.
  • Experience in ethical handling of research data.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and with communities that have low access to resources.
