About This Position

The University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine's Office of the Executive Dean for Research has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Financial Analyst. Reporting to the Director of Business Operations and Finance for the Office of the Executive Dean for Research Finance Team (EDR Finance), the Sr. Financial Analyst will assist in planning and organizing the financial and analysis processes including financial reporting and accounting reconciliations. Additionally, this position is responsible for the preparation, coordination, review and analysis of departmental financial activities including the development of forecasts, budgets and process work flow of documents for authorization.

Key responsibilities include supporting the EDR Finance Team and the Miller School of Medicine (MSOM) by providing management and analytical information for the purposes of financial management and budgetary control. Maintain research related data and prepare reports and presentations for leadership to support MSOM research targets. The Sr. Financial Analyst will also work and interact with University financial officers and accounting personnel processing paperwork associated with account management, access forms, purchasing approvals, salary transfers, journals, business expense reimbursements, purchase requisitions among others. Will become familiar with the Workday ERP financial and HR systems and assist EDR in system support and training for EDR staff.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in creating and monitoring the annual budget for EDR, keeping the unit heads apprised of their financial position through financial modeling and forecasting.

  • Ensure compliance with university financial policies and procedures and standard operating procedures; direct internal review activities to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Perform forecasting and planning, historical data reporting, and projections for financial and research-related data for EDR and MSOM.

  • Perform financial and accounting duties for EDR units including, billing and invoicing, journal entries, account reconciliations, purchasing approvals, record retention and other transactions.

  • Interface with various MSOM leaders, Medical Finance and other EDR units to identify and complete complex financial projects to support the resolution of outstanding research issues at MSOM.

  • Draft, negotiate and manage consulting agreements and other contracts as required for EDR units.

  • Compile data from various sources to create and automate financial, KPI, and performance reports to support the University’s senior leadership in planning, policy formulation and decision-making.

  • Compile, prepare and input budget data into Tidemark budgeting system during annual budget cycle.

  • Provide timely support, advice and guidance to EDR leaders to help facilitate month-end closing within the deadlines specified.

  • Monitor, review and report progress on departmental budgets and forecasts during the budget cycle for completeness, accuracy in accounting allocations and highlighting departments deviating from agreed targets.

  • Support various MSOM research initiatives by creating processes, providing reports and meeting with key faculty or administrators to ensure variability.

  • Assist EDR Leadership in the execution of strategic initiatives by gathering and analyzing pertinent information and creating presentations to senior leadership.

  • Support/create presentations for various events such as research retreats, the Research Cabinet meeting, symposiums, etc.

  • Create ad-hoc reports as needed by departmental administrators and leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field. A Master’s degree would be preferred. At least three years experience in accounting, finance or data management with a preference in healthcare finance and operational setting. Highly proficient in Excel. Proficient in remainder of Microsoft Office suite. High personal standards of integrity, ethical behavior, fairness and respect in dealing with others. Highly organized, analytical and detail oriented with strong planning and writing skills, ability to work independently and think through activities. Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with talent to work across all functions and at all levels throughout the organization and external parties. Ability to manage extremely confidential information. Excellent English skills (both verbal and written) required. Committed to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
