The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.Additional Details:
Reporting to the Director of International Recruitment in the International Recruitment & Admissions Office housed under the Graduate School. The unit functions as a center point for international graduate and undergraduate recruitment and is the admissions office for undergraduate applications.
Work Requirement: 20 hours per week with set and/or flex hours according to department needs.
•Responsible for answering prospective graduate student inquiries via email, phone, virtual, or in person.
•Monitor and maintain general email account, [email protected]
•Provide campus tours for students, visiting professionals, and prospective students.
•Participate in graduate open house, special events on campus.
•Work with director on programming AdminPros (AP5) for continuous improvement
•Assist with communication tracker annual revisions in AP5. Conduct data report pulls from AP5.
•Scan and upload documents to AP5 (ex: TOEFL, IELTS, passport, visa, I20 and related application documents).
•Data input in AdminPros, ensuring accuracy of field codes. Debug glitches, issue work tickets.
•Perform administrative duties such as filing, creating reports, word processing, Excel, PowerPoint
•Assist with market research and digital/social media campaigns.
•Assist with marketing materials, communication plan.
•Update IRAO website with proficiency in HTML, CSS, and web page design using Wordpress.
•Prepare packages for domestic and international shipments.
•Provide occasional front desk coverage in the Graduate School office, when needed.
•Assist Graduate Admissions Office with administrative duties.
•Discuss graduate degree programs with prospective students.
•Maintain familiarity with UNCG mission, graduate and undergraduate academic degree programs, campus events, student services, campus directory, offices and their functions.
•Assist with pickup, delivery of interoffice mail; courier to other campus offices and mail room.
•Attend meetings. Take minutes of meeting, as needed.
To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:
•Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
•Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
•Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
•Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
•Strong cross-cultural skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, in English
•Ability to prioritize and manage workload well and multi-task in a fast paced, team-oriented, customer-service driven environment
•Work well autonomously with minimal oversight; focused on customer service excellence
•Highly proficient in Word Press, HTML, CSS, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
•Foreign language proficiency a plus, but not required
•Must be highly reliable, maintain confidentiality of student records and department matters
•Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs.
