Organizational Unit Overview:

Through collaboration, the division provides programs and services that are grounded in theory, assessment, and sound practice.

The mission of the Department of Campus Living-Residence Life is to provide services and programs for students in the residence halls at East Carolina University. To fulfill this mission, we focus on student development, academic support, counseling, discipline and educational programming which address the needs of a broad variety of students from diverse backgrounds.

Job Duties :

This position requires complex independent problem solving, the exercise of significant independent discretion, and direct oversight along with the coordination of various department-wide policies, procedures, and operations. Additionally, this position requires the exercise of delicate, sophisticated, and complex decision-making.

The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include planning, leadership, and supervisory responsibility of three main programmatic or operational areas including leadership for the administration of the Campus Living Conduct Office process, leadership of behavioral programmatic initiatives and leadership for departmental risk reduction as well as compliance.


The administrative duties for this position include leadership of developing the Campus Living contract review processes and appropriate interventions for minor violations of the Campus Living agreement and/or Resident Handbook; partners with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to ensure appropriate training and oversight of residence hall staff managing student conduct and community conflict processes; leadership of Conduct and Strategic Education Team and modified Structured for Success Program, a program designed to academically support students found responsible for serious policy violations within the residence hall system; leadership for the Campus Living Agreement contract review process, Campus Living Conduct appeals process, and appropriate interventions for minor violations of the Campus Living Agreement and/or Resident Handbook; assisting with the development of on-call confrontation procedures for student staff and professional staff. Collaborates with the ECU Police regarding criminal intervention and communications; oversight for Campus Living conduct-related policy updates, including thorough review of the residence hall fliers, manuals, Contract, Resident Handbook, conduct letters, and forms; assists with access controls for Maxient as staff onboard and depart; organizing and administration, including scheduling of department duty rotations, and participation in duty coverage responsibilities; supervision of professional and student staff; departmental compliance with safety and security laws and regulations including fire safety & fire drills, departmental Clery Act reporting, FERPA compliance, TITLE IX compliance, aspects of ADA compliance, safety and security audits or inspections, and risks or hazards reduction; oversee the administration and enforcement of the campus living agreement pertaining to management of community conflicts (roommate disagreements, or floor disagreements); provide guidance and active support to various teams; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience :

Masters degree and 4 years of full-time related experience in a higher education setting with responsibility for student development.
