Overview

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for a Staff Process Integration and Training Engineer position to work as a senior staff member in the Princeton University Institute for the Science and Technology (PRISM) Cleanroom. The PRISM Cleanroom is Princeton's central, shared use cleanroom facility and houses a large complement of tools dedicated to thin film deposition and photolithographic patterning, packaging and processing across all meso to nanometer length scales. The successful candidate will participate in a multidisciplinary research and education environment providing mentoring and training, utilizing a wide range of instrumentation available in the PRISM Cleanroom.  These roles will provide leadership, guidance and support of projects in a multi-user facility navigating the complexities of novel process and material use across a broad tool set with a varied user base. Practical Engineers are needed who can adeptly navigate varied project goals, individuals and timelines; novel process development and risk mitigation across shared tool use. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians to help Princeton students and researchers as well as industrial users with design solutions, facilitate effective fabrication and processing, contribute in the future development of quantum devices, micro and nanotechnology at Princeton.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor student researchers, helping them complete their research in a safe and effective manner
  • Provide training, maintenance, repair for photolithography tool cluster (Heidelberg DWL66, contact aligners, spin processers including chemical bench inventory and waste support)
  • Support reactive ion etching tools (SAMCO, PlasmaTherm, Oxford)
  • Support electron beam lithography tool training and applications support
  • Provide training and instruction supporting deposition tools
  • Document tool and process characterization improvements and publish results in annual Princeton Research Report
  • Back-up support for Toxic Gas Monitoring infrastructure
  • Support external collaboration and partnership by assisting external industrial and academic users with their projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field, with at least 3 years working hands-on in a research or production cleanroom in tool use, characterization, optimization and maintenance; or the equivalent combination of education, such as, an associate degree with at least 10 years, a bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years, and, a master’s degree with at least 5 years relevant experience, will be considered. The candidate must demonstrate soft skills in effective verbal and written communication, as effective interactions with Cleanroom Labmembers is the hallmark of the community culture.

 

Candidates with significant experience in complex device microfabrication in one or more of the following technologies are encouraged to apply: quantum devices, semiconductors, MEMS, photonics, microfluidics, or other relevant technology.

 

Must demonstrate willingness to learn and adhere to Princeton’s Cleanroom and safety protocols.

 

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in cleanroom, chemical, and measurement laboratory environments. Individual in this role is expected to work with compressed gases, acids, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals. This role requires the individual to be as hired individual will be required to work on large and small assemblies.

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of statistical experimental design including demonstrable use of JMP or Minitab or equivalent desired.
  • Working understanding of vacuum science including pumping technologies.
  • Working knowledge of life safety support systems including gas detection and alarming.
