Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Senior Accountant for the Financial Services Department. Under the general supervision from the AVP of Finance and Business, the Senior Accountant is responsible for analyzing and reviewing financial data and preparing reports for both internal and external constituents that align with the institutional mission and vision. Responsible for meeting the goals of the business unit consistent with an understanding of academic accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and in compliance with GASB accounting standards. Will serve as the primary contact for principle investigators such as the internal auditor, external auditor and other parties seeking information as well as serves as the institution’s Asset Manager.

Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions using accepted accounting principles. Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies. Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.

Will monitor The Citadel’s Trust Endowment cash and spend as well as TCF gifts posted to the Trust; to include endowment accounts, deposits to individual investment banks for endowment funds, unitized and investment spreadsheets, expenses and income, realized and unrealized gains and losses, and scholarship expenses for TCF. Maintains financial records and supporting documentation as it relates to Fixed Assets and Construction Management within Banner Finance. Creates entries based on capitalization of Construction in Progress and coordinates CIP accordingly. Must compile appropriate information on each account in time for annual review for year-end close process. Oversee accuracy and efficiency of accounts receivable operations including tuition, scholarships, third party, contracts and facilities use agreements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Ability to demonstrate progressive experience as an accountant. Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and GASB accounting standards is imperative. Experience with proven detail-oriented work style in collaboration with effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a high degree of proficiency in Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

Public accounting experience preferred. CPA License preferred. Ellucian systems experience preferred.
