Job Responsibilities

The Faculty reports to the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department Head, and is responsible for teaching assigned sociology courses in the BSS Department, which may include Introduction to Sociology, Marriage and the Family, Social Problems, and Juvenile Delinquency. Responsibilities include teaching assigned courses; maintaining accurate records; adhering to department policies; developing curriculum and course materials; evaluating and improving courses to enhance student learning; serving as an advisor to students; monitoring and keeping records of student academic progress; assisting department leadership with course development and enhancement and mentoring part-time faculty as requested; participating in professional development activities; serving on college committees; assisting with marketing and recruiting efforts for the division.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

The candidate must have a master's degree in Sociology, or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Sociology. The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching in various teaching modes such as on-campus lecture, Online, at Dual Credit locations, Hybrid, and virtual modalities, experience teaching at Dual Credit locations is strongly preferred. The candidate must be proficient in using education technology platforms and able to teach in all modalities and locations.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess strong problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as a strong background in curriculum issues, articulation and transfer practices and educational technology. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are essential and candidate must possess leadership abilities and be effective in team work with other BSS Faculty, BSS Department Coordinators, Department Head, and division leadership. The ability to be flexible in an environment characterized by continual changes in information technology is essential.
