Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work as a full-time, tenure-track Academic Counselor with an emphasis on career counseling.

Research shows that counseling support services are critical in helping students achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. LTCC recognizes the vital role of counseling faculty in students’ lives and academic careers and, therefore, plans to ensure that students have reliable access to counselors to meet their diverse needs.

LTCC has adopted several new programs and initiatives that have and will continue to include significant involvement from the Counseling department.

Additionally, the Vision for Success goals established by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office will benefit from enhanced counselor support. This innovative model placed a strong emphasis on utilizing the expertise of counselors to provide core student support services to newly enrolled and continuing students. The Vision for Success highlights student success goals that the California Community College system is aiming to reach; these include increasing degree and certificate attainment, transfers to four-year institutions, securing gainful employment, reducing excess unit accumulation by students, and closing equity gaps. The counselors at LTCC play a leading role in achieving the goals in the Vision for Success.

Adding a new academic counselor with an emphasis in career counseling will assist in securing gainful employment for all students in need of achieving career goals after graduating from LTCC, which is aligned with goal #3 "Secure Gainful Employment" from the Vision for Success model. This position will be LTCC’s first full-time dedicated career counselor and the successful candidate will possess interest and expertise in career counseling services for community college students.

This position is a 200-day contract over the period of 12 months, including summer and winter hours with evening and weekend responsibility. The work calendar may need to be adjusted as the position and programs grow and change.
