Duties & Responsibilities:

The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for two Assistant Professor, Educator Scholar, positions in the Department of Occupational Therapy.  Positions are full-time, 12-month non-tenure track, special appointment position at our Grand Forks site that will begin on or about June 1, 2021.

Candidates will have the opportunity to be an integral part of an occupational therapy program that grants an entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) degree on two campuses located in Grand Forks, ND and Casper, WY. The University of North Dakota Occupational Therapy Program in Grand Forks began in 1954 and the Casper satellite opened in 1993.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

    Prepare and instruct courses assigned by the department chair.Select, prepare and maintain current curriculum, course outlines and printed and non-printed instructional materials.Engage in curriculum planning and revision as needed.Advise students as it pertains to their educational program; maintain accurate files on each advisee.Mentor and advise students through the scholarly project or independent study process.Participate, when appropriate, in such things as schedule building, budget input, equipment and material orders, etc.Maintain office/discipline/division records as required by the Department, SMHS and University.Assist in timely efforts to meet program reviews and the development and implementation of accreditation guidelines.Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus and approved textbook (and/or related instructional material).  Participate in textbook adoption and review as appropriate.Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, engaging in professional development activities, and networking with colleagues.Engage in life-long learning in the areas including (but not limited to) higher education, student-centered learning, occupational therapy best practice, and teaching/learning technology. Serve on University/SMHS/departmental committees and attend appropriate meetings.Engage in productive scholarly and creative activity independently or collaboratively with others in the department, school, university or community.
The individual will be responsible for teaching in his or her area(s) of expertise in relation to being able to teach a variety of courses within physical disabilities and psychosocial occupational therapy with a special emphasis on diversity and inclusion and upper extremity orthopedics. The individual must have strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Responsibilities will also include undergraduate and graduate student advisement.

Minimum Requirements

    OT DegreeEarned clinical doctorate degree or higher By June 1, 2021Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience Evidence of a minimum of one-year full-time teaching experience in the areas of clinical expertise.  Demonstrated experience in program development and familiarity in the delivery with a variety of educational approaches (e.g., traditional, online education, and distance education) within team-taught and subject-centered curriculums.Certification by NBCOTLicensed in North Dakota and Wyoming. Each full-time faculty member on the educator scholar track is responsible for supporting the teaching, scholarship, and service missions of the department as designated in collaboration with the department chair. The faculty member is responsible for providing effective learning experiences for students with diverse interests, abilities and expectations.  Faculty members are expected to engage in creative/scholarly activities and be involved in activities that support individuals and or groups in the institution, University System, professional associations, or external communities at the local, state, regional, national or international levels.

    Earned academic doctorate (or significant progress toward this degree) with emphasis on teaching adults and research methodsVerified area of advanced specialty certification (e.g., lymphedema, assistive technology, physical agent modalities, complementary medicine)Experience teaching in the areas of occupational justice and diversityExperience in higher educationDemonstrated proficiency in using multiple modes of teaching/learning technologies including video-conferencing and online instruction.Experience Advising StudentsActive in professional associationsExperience in mentoring studentsExperience in curriculum designExperience in course development

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

Position:  Assistant Professor, Educator Scholar, special appointment

Renumeration/Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
